Wyoming

State EMS office Wyoming Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services
Licensure levels recognized EMR, EMT, AEMT, Intermediate EMT and Paramedic.
NREMT required for initial licensure National Registry cognitive and practical testing is the evaluation route for initial licensure at most levels.
Reciprocity / legal recognition Wyoming accepts National Registry certification as the basis for reciprocity; applications go through the Online Wyoming Licensure System.
Renewal cycle Two years, expiring on 31 December. The renewal window runs from 1 October to 31 December.
Continuing education model Hours by level: 20 for an EMR, 42 for an EMT and 54 for an AEMT, each split across airway management, pediatrics, trauma, medical and electives. Live instruction or distributed education approved by the Office or CAPCE counts, and distributed education may cover no more than half the required hours. Renewal also takes current BLS CPR at every level and current ACLS for an Intermediate EMT or Paramedic.

Certification and licensure are not the same thing

National Registry certification

Passing the NREMT cognitive and psychomotor exams earns you national certification. It is what most states use as the entry standard, but it is not a license to practice on its own.

State license

Your state EMS office issues the credential that actually lets you work. Each state sets its own application process, background requirements, fees, and scope of practice.

Reciprocity

Moving states usually means applying for legal recognition of your existing certification rather than starting over. What transfers automatically varies, and this is where candidates most often get stuck.
